Things Happened

Where has the time gone?

I'm back. And things have been crazy. I'm going to catergorize the following entry into the following -

THE FUTURE
LOS ANGELES FILM FESTIVAL
SUNLIT SHADOWS
THE WESTERN

First off

The Future.

I'm EXCITED!

Ok.

Now.

The LAFF.

This year, I didn't attend many things. A few films - all of which were not that interesting. Except for a film by the guy who directed THE CELL which was presented by David Fincher and Spike Jonze. It was OK. It has yet to be distributed and it probably won't.

Think - Pan's Labyrynth in TECHNOCOLOR.

I did however start receiving many emails.

From The Weinstein Co. (they are meeting with select short filmmakers to find future writers for them). I can send them a script when I have - more on that later.

From a Sundance Programmer who'd like to submit my film to his new site.

From various people who saw my film at the festival and are interested in showcasing it either on their site (YouTube may feature it) or interview me for an "independent cinema" filmmaker.

All of which is - CRAZY.

Suddenly, after 3 "big-esque" festivals, people are writing to say they've heard so much about Lonely Lights and want to program it (Heartland Film Festival and others). It's weird how suddenly - after a year that people start to think that something is good.

Last year, I got 10 rejections in a row.

I'm nevous about Sunlit Shadows.

I also met with some people in what was called a KODAK CONNECT. One of which is a manager who seems to like me. She's reading the Western now - we will see how that pans out next week.

CROSSING FINGERS.

I also met with SHORTS INTERNATIONAL who wants to take Lonely Lights and possibly put it on French Television (which is why Lonely Lights has been removed from my site - just a trailer). I have been told specifically to stay away from YouTube...

But I met with a woman from YouTube who says that's hogwash. That I should post and have it featured and seen by thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people...

WHAT!?

I ruin my chances of getting nominated for a short film Oscar if I post to YouTube.

I'm not getting nominated.

I have no rights to my music.

And it's a student film.

The universe is weird.

I'm not sure what to do.

My next short is just starting to be edited. And as it stands it's a clunky mess. My editor is horribly busy and is slow to get started. Where, I would be half through cut 2 or 3 we've barely gotten through half the film.

I'm impatient.

I've got nothing in my life by movies. My short film. My feature script. My future. Nothing is this but this.

And the short film doesn't seem to be cutting well.

I'm being overly negative.

THIS IS THE SUNLIT SHADOWS SECTION.

It's going to be great.

hopefully.

THE WESTERN

I've finished it. I've sent it out. And the Film Independent Screenwriter's Lab gave me coverage.

THEY HATED IT.

Given they seemed to have read every chapter of Robert McKee's STORY and I've decided against that BULLSHIT - but still. It hurt.

Sometimes when your head grows too fucking big it needs to be burst.

My head needed bursting.

But shit happens.

But I like The Western. I like that it's frank. And sexual. And honest. And gay. And angry. And quiet.

Huff.

Next week, I'm meeting with a manager. I hope it goes better than my coverage.

I'll keep you posted.

Sorry, I've been away. Hugs and bugs.

I made that up.
