Hello, Old Friend.

Man, has it been a while since I've posted anything here... and especially anything other than a top 10 list or a video I liked.  Blogging has become a lost form, I think.  Now it's just the Twitters & Tumblrs.  Instagrams of my time.  All of it funneling into Facebook, doubling up and probably annoying my friends.

Sitting down and working though a series of words & thoughts & ideas seems weird but I think I'm going to try and do this, just to get back in the rhythm of writing.  I really need to do that.

Recently, I've been relearning US History.  It's actually been a fun, engaging experience.  I've watched John Adams, read through a Presidents App for my iPad, studied through Ken Burns docs... and even made a post it notes timeline:

I really enjoyed it.  However, I have found that I have fallen trap to my own impatience.  I find reading too slow.  I can't seem to consume the words fast enough.  And my brain tends to wobble back and forth into so many alternative thoughts that concentration is difficult.

I want to read Team of Rivals.  The story of Lincoln's presidency, particularly the way he handled his cabinet during the Civil War.  It's a chore.  Not because of the subject matter but because my reading skills aren't as quick & compressive as my thirst for knowledge.  The meandering, setting up of mood and story just isn't something I'm too into.

The same goes for Ken Burns.  It's like - stop meandering... and what's with all these dramatic pauses!?

That being said, I do appreciate & respect the art of a Ken Burns documentary.  Or the prose in which Doris Kearns Goodwin writes.  Both of them recreate history in a beautiful, meaningful way.  I'm just too damn impatient.

Beyond that, I've enjoyed a hell of a lot of great television.  Game of Thrones - fantastic.  Mad Men - great opening... not as strong as it started... but has picked up the pace in the last few episodes.  The Killing truly made up for a weak second half of its first season (and kind of weak opening 2nd).  And I've got Saturday Morning cartoons again with Legend of Kora.  It's a great time to be a TV viewer.

Not so great on the video game front... with Mass Effect 3 & Journey being the best of... probably this year.  There is Darksiders II and another Halo... but they aren't must play games.  Prototype has been a nice surprise but I'm not sure it's anything more than a game to play between better games.

Writing... writing has been my worst.  I've done almost no writing this year.  I have a bunch of scripts at the 40 page mark & for one reason or the other, I hasn't worked them any further.

I think the main reason is that I really want to make Fear Between Vultures.  I feel that's my next project but funding is this HUGE FUCKING OBSTACLE.  And finding a producer who's willing to take the literal journey with me (it's a road trip flick).

But, things will happen.  & at some point, an opportunity will rise... one in which I'll hopefully make happen.

Til then... I'll continue to consume, hopefully using it for future exploits.
